To go undefeated for an entire year is even more impressive. The Elgin Kickers U9 girls soccer team did just that on Sunday, capping a perfect 39-0 run through its fall, winter and spring season. Most of the girls were new to traveling soccer when they were placed on the team last fall. Nonetheless, the girls had a perfect record of 10-0 during the fall, outscoring their opponents 69-10. Coach Kyle Walters, who also serves as the Elgin Community College women's soccer coach, wanted the team to keep developing its skills during the winter months and entered the squad in an indoor soccer league in St. Charles. The success continued as the team won every game and outscored its opponents 60-16. Based on these accomplishments, the team was moved up for the spring 2009 season to play at the "B" level, or two divisions higher than it had been playing in the fall. The spring season began at a tournament in Rockford on April 18th and 19th. The girls swept the tournament, winning all four games and outscoring their opponents 21-5 despite rainy conditions all weekend . The Kickers followed that accomplishment by winning 11 games in May, including seven games in their divisional play and four games at a tournament on Memorial Day weekend in Park Ridge. The Kickers finished their perfect season on Sunday on their home field at the Verbic Sports Complex in Elgin. They knocked off a team from Schaumburg 6-2. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
